Dieser Teil der ÖNORM beschreibt die Prüfung von Textilien mittels eines ballistischen Pendels nach Elmendorf. Bei diesem dynamischen Verfahren wird die Reißkraft bestimmt, die, ausgehend von einem Einschnitt in der Meßprobe, zum Weiterreißen eines textilen Flächengebildes erforderlich ist. Die Prüfung ist hauptsächlich für Gewebe vorgesehen, kann jedoch auch auf textile Flächengebilde angewendet werden, die nach anderen Techniken hergestellt wurden. Nicht anwendbar ist die Prüfung auf Gewirke oder Gestricke, Elastikwebwaren, Vliesstoffe und beschichtete textile Flächengebilde. Weiters ist sie nicht geeignet für anisotrope oder lockere textile Flächengebilde, die wahrscheinlich nicht fadengerade reißen.
