Diese Internationale Norm beschreibt Probenmaße und das Verfahren der mechanischen Schälprüfung an Einzelpunkt-, Rollennaht- und geprägte Buckelschweißverbindungen an überlappten Blechen aus beliebigen metallischen Werkstoffen, der Blechdicke t von 0,5 mm bis 3 mm, wobei die Schweißungen einen maximalen Punktdurchmesser von Wurzel aus 7t (wobei t die Blechdicke in mm ist) haben. An Schweißungen mit Durchmessern > Wurzel aus 5t und Wurzel aus 7t ist es möglich, die Werte der Schälkraft zu unterschätzen, wenn die empfohlenen Probenmaße angewendet werden, da die Probenbreite für Schweiß-verbindungen mit einem Durchmesser von höchstens Wurzel aus 5t vorgesehen ist. Das Ziel der mechanischen Schälprüfung ist, die Schälkraft zu bestimmen, die die Probe ertragen kann.
