Dieser Teil von ISO 14680 gehört zu einer Reihe von Normen, welche die Probenahme und die Prüfung von Beschichtungsstoffen behandelt. Er legt ein Verfahren zum Bestimmen des Pigmentgehaltes von Beschichtungsstoffen fest, bei dem der Feststoffanteil abzentrifugiert wird. Er ist in erster Linie zur Kontrolle der Zusammensetzung bei der Herstellung von Beschichtungsstoffen und zur Eingangskontrolle beim Anwender von Beschichtungsstoffen bestimmt. Schwierigkeiten können auftreten, wenn das Verfahren auf Beschichtungsstoffe angewendet wird, die Farbstoffe, Ruß, feinstverteiltes Siliciumdioxid oder feinstverteiltes Titandioxid enthalten. Es ist nicht anwendbar für Dispersionsfarben. Der Pigmentgehalt von Beschichtungsstoffen kann auch nach einem Veraschungsverfahren (siehe ISO 14680-2), oder einem Filtrationsverfahren (siehe ISO 14680-3) bestimmt werden.
