Dieser Teil von ISO 14680 gehört zu einer Reihe von Normen, welche die Probenahme und die Prüfung von Beschichtungsstoffen behandelt. Er legt ein Verfahren zum Bestimmen des Pigmentgehaltes von Beschichtungsstoffen fest, bei dem Kaliumhydroxid-Lösung zugesetzt wird, um das Pigment zu coagulieren, und der Feststoffanteil abfiltrieret wird. Das Verfahren ist insbesondere anwendbar für Beschichtungsstoffe, die Ruß, feinstverteiltes Siliciumdioxid, organische Pigmente oder Dispersionen enthalten. Es ist nicht anwendbar auf viele wasserverdünnbare Beschichtungsstoffe, da das gesamte Bindemittel ebenfalls coaguliert, wenn Kaliumhydroxid-Lösung zugesetzt wird. Der Pigmentgehalt von Beschichtungsstoffen kann auch nach einem Zentrifugenverfahren (siehe ISO 14680-1), oder nach einem Veraschungsverfahren (siehe ISO 14680-2) bestimmt werden.
