Der Hauptzweck dieser Norm ist das Zusammenstellen von Anforderungen für die Abnahmeprüfung von Elektronenstrahl-Schweißmaschinen, vorzugsweise nach der Erstinstallation beim Anwender. Diese Norm kann (vollständig oder teilweise) Grundlage technischer Lieferbedingungen für Elektronenstrahl-Schweißmaschinen sein. Soweit durch laufende Prüfberichte zufrieden stellende Schweißergebnisse bestätigt werden, sind weitere Prüfungen normalerweise nicht erforderlich. Im Rahmen von Instandhaltungsarbeiten können jedoch die Anforderungen dieser Norm als Prüfungen vereinbart werden.
