Diese Internationale Norm legt die generelle Vorgehensweise fest, wenn thermisch gespritzte Schichten zur Reparatur verschlissener und nicht passender Teile oder der Verbesserung der Oberflächeneigenschaften von Bauteilen angewendet werden. Diese Internationale Norm legt aufgrund der Vielfalt an technologischen, physikalischen und/oder chemischen Anforderungen und der Bauteilgeometrie keine bestimmten Verfahren für spezielle Arbeiten fest. Diese Internationale Norm legt allgemeine Auswahlbedingungen für das Spritzverfahren und Werkstoffe fest. Sie gilt nicht für thermisch gespritzte Zink- und/oder Aluminiumschichten für den Schutz von Stahlkonstruktionen gegen atmosphärische Korrosion, hierfür gilt ISO 2063. Diese Internationale Norm gilt ebenfalls nicht für Schichten aus selbstfließenden Legierungen mit anschließendem Umschmelzen, die durch ISO 14920 abgedeckt sind.
