Die Vorgangsweise basiert auf dem in ISO 1518:1992 - Paints and varnishes-Scratch test-beschriebenen Verfahren, wobei jedoch bedeutend höhere Kräfte angewendet werden. Der erhaltene Wert der Ritzbeständigkeit ist ein Maß für die Beständigkeit von emaillierten Erzeugnissen gegen das Ritzen mittels scharfer Gegenstände unter hohen Kräften und ist nicht mit der Bestimmung der Ritzhärte nach Mohs vergleichbar.
