Diese Internationale Norm legt die Bedingungen zur Durchführung von Drehmoment/Vorspannkraft-Versuchen für mechanische Verbindungselemente mit Gewinde und ähnliche Teile fest. Sie ist grundsätzlich für Schrauben und Muttern mit metrischem Gewinde der Abmessungen M3 bis M39 aus Kohlenstoffstahl und legiertem Stahl anwendbar, deren mechanische Eigenschaften in den Normen ISO 898-1 oder ISO 898-2 festgelegt sind. Sie ist nicht für Gewindestifte und ähnliche Teile, die keiner Zugspannung ausgesetzt sind, für gewindeformende Schrauben anwendbar. Wenn nichts anderes vereinbart, sind die Versuche bei Raumtemperatur auszuführen. Versuche unter festgelegten Bedingungen sind jedoch in einem Temperaturbereich von 10 °C bis 35 °C durchzuführen. Dieses Verfahren erlaubt die Bestimmung der Anzieheigenschaften von mechanischen Verbindungselementen mit Gewinde und ähnlichen Teilen.
