Dieser Teil von ISO 1628 legt die speziellen Bedingungen für die Bestimmung der reduzierten Viskosität (auch bekannt als Viskositätszahl) und der Intrinsic-Viskosität von Polyethylen und Polypropylen in verdünnter Lösung bei 135 °C fest. Die Viskosität von Polymerlösungen kann durch in der Probe vorhandene Zusätze beeinflusst werden. Der nach diesem Verfahren ermittelte Wert einer reduzierten Viskosität kann deshalb unzuverlässig sein, wenn die Probe Füllstoffe oder andere Zusätze enthält.
