Dieser Teil von ISO 1628 legt ein Verfahren für die Bestimmung der Viskositätszahl (auch als "reduzierte Viskosität" bezeichnet) verdünnter Lösungen thermoplastischer Polyester (TPs) in bestimmten festgelegten Lösemitteln fest. Das Verfahren ist geeignet für Polyethylenterephthalat (PET), Polybutylenterephthalat (PBT), Polycyclohexylendimethylenterephthalat (PCT) und Polyethylennaphthalat (PEN) sowie für Copolyester und andere Polyester, die in ISO 7792-1 festgelegt sind, die unter den festgelegten Bedingungen in einem der vorgegebenen Lösemittel löslich sind. Die Viskositätszahl wird nach dem in ISO 1628-1 festgelegten allgemeinen Verfahren unter Berücksichtigung der in diesem Teil von ISO 1628 festgelegten besonderen Bedingungen bestimmt. Die Bestimmung der Viskositätszahl eines thermoplastischen Polyesters liefert ein Maß für die relative Molekularmasse des Polymers.
