Die Internationale Norm beschreibt Verfahren zur Bestimmung von Hauptelementen in biogenen Festbrennstoffen bzw. deren Aschen; das sind Al, Ca, Fe, Mg, P, K, Si, Na, Ti. Die Bestimmung anderer Elemente, wie z. B. von Barium (Ba) und Mangan (Mn), ist mit den in dieser Internationalen Norm beschriebenen Verfahren auch möglich. Diese Internationale Norm enthält zwei Teile: In Teil A ist die direkte Bestimmung am Brennstoff beschrieben, dieses Verfahren gilt auch für Schwefel und Spurenelemente, mit Teil B wird ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung an einer bei 550 °C hergestellten Asche zur Verfügung gestellt.
