Dieses Verfahren, das auf Hochleistungsflüssigkeitschromatographie (HPLC, en: high-performance liquid chromatography) beruht, ist selektiv und unempfindlich gegenüber gefärbten Extrakten und dient der präzisen Quantifizierung von Formaldehyd. Der Formaldehydgehalt ist die Menge an freiem Formaldehyd und durch Hydrolyse freigesetztem Formaldehyd, die in einem wässrigen Extrakt, der unter standardisierten Anwendungsbedingungen aus dem Leder erhalten wurde, enthalten ist.
