Es ist besonders zur Messung der gleich bleibenden Qualität von synthetischen Gerbstoffen geeignet. In ISO 14088 wird Hautpulver zur Bestimmung des Gerbanteils von Gerbstoffen verwendet. Allerdings ist dieses traditionelle Verfahren zeitaufwendig und ungeeignet, wenn die Ergebnisse in kurzen Zeitabständen benötigt werden.
