Diese Internationale Norm legt zwei empirische Verfahren für die quantitative Bestimmung des Masseverlusts bei einem Kunststoff unter festgelegten Zeit- und Temperaturbedingungen in Gegenwart von Aktivkohle fest. Die Verfahren werden besonders für die quantitative Bestimmung der Weichmacherabgabe aus weichmacherhaltigen Kunststoffen beim Erwärmen angewendet, wobei allgemein angenommen wird, dass keine bedeutenden Mengen von anderen flüchtigen Stoffen anwesend sind. Diese Prüfverfahren sind empirisch und nur für einen relativ schnellen Vergleich der Abgabe von Weichmachern oder im Allgemeinen von flüchtigen Verbindungen aus unterschiedlichen Kunststoffen geeignet.
