ISO 18542 ist in zwei Teile untergliedert: - Teil 1 "General information and use case definition" - in diesem Teil sind ein Rahmen und ein Prozess für die Festlegung von Benennungen festgelegt; - Teil 2 "Standardized process implementation requirements, Registration authority" - in diesem Teil werden die Anforderungen an die Prozessimplementierung für ein Terminologiemanagementsystem und für eine Registrierungsstelle mit einem digitalen Anhang festgelegt. Der Hauptzweck der Normenreihe ISO 18542 ist es, unabhängige Marktteilnehmer bei der Suche auf RMI-Websites von Fahrzeugherstellern zu unterstützen. Dieser Teil der ISO 18542 legt fest: - die technischen Anforderungen, die von dem Terminologiemanagementsystem [TMS] erfüllt werden müssen, das für die Verwaltung und Speicherung der festgelegten RMI-Terminologie eingesetzt wird; - die Anforderungen an die Registrierungsstelle [RA] (d. h. die Stelle, die für die Pflege und Veröffentlichung der festgelegten RMI-Terminologie verantwortlich ist); Der Rahmen und der Prozess für die Erarbeitung festgelegter Terminologie ist Gegenstand von ISO 18542-1. Die Zielgruppe dieses Teils von ISO 18542 sind technische Fachkräfte, insbesondere jene, die für die Implementierung des Mandats M/421 verantwortlich sind.
