Dieser Teil der Internationalen Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung von 4-Nonylphenol (Isomerengemisch) und 4-(1,1,3,3-Tetramethylbutyl)phenol in unfiltrierten Trinkwasser-, Grundwasser- und Oberflächenwasserproben fest. Das Verfahren ist im Konzentrationsbereich von 0,005 ug/l bis 0,2 ug/l für 4-(1,1,3,3-Tetramethylbutyl) phenol und von 0,02 ug/l bis 0,2 ug/l für 4-Nonylphenol (Isomerengemisch) anwendbar. In Abhängigkeit von der Matrix kann das Verfahren auch zur Untersuchung von Abwasser im Konzentrationsbereich von 0,1 µg/l bis 50 µg/l angewandt werden. Höhere Konzentrationen können nach entsprechender Verdünnung der Probe bestimmt werden.
