Diese Internationale Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Drehung von Textilglas-, Kohlenstoff-, Aramidgarnen oder jeder anderen Art von Verstärkungsfaser fest. Dieses Verfahren gilt für Einfachgarne (eine Drehung) sowie ein- oder mehrstufige Zwirne (zwei oder mehr Drehungen). Bei ein- oder mehrstufigen Zwirnen wird das Verfahren im Allgemeinen nur auf den Auszwirn angewandt. Diese Internationale Norm gilt für in Form von Wicklungen aufgemachte Garne. Wird die Prüfung an Garnen vorgenommen, die dem Weberbaum (oder der Kette) oder einem Gewebestück entnommen wurden, stellt das Ergebnis nur einen Richtwert dar. Dieses Verfahren ist nicht auf Stapelfasergarne anwendbar.
