Diese Internationale Norm legt ein gaschromatographisches Verfahren zum Bestimmen der Zusammensetzung bestimmter Harzsäuren in Kolophonium mittels Kapillar-Gaschromatographie der flüchtigen Methylester dieser Säuren fest. Es wird hauptsächlich zur Identifizierung der Herkunft des Kolophoniums bestimmter Kiefernarten eingesetzt. Es wird nicht zur quantitativen Analyse von Kolophonium eingesetzt. Falls solche Analysen benötigt werden, sollte das Verfahren mit internen Standards nach ASTM D 5974 angewendet werden.
