Dieses Dokument legt ein gravimetrisches Verfahren und ein Schwingungsverfahren zur Bestimmung der Feinheit von textilen Fasern fest, jeweils anwendbar auf a) Faserbündel; b) Einzelfasen. Brauchbare Ergebnisse können bei Chemiefasern erzielt werden und mit geringerer Genauigkeit bei Naturfasern. Dieses Dokument ist nur für Fasern, die bei der Probenvorbereitung gerade und, im Fall von Bündeln, parallel gehalten werden können, anzuwenden. Es ist nur dann ordnungsgemäß anwendbar, wenn die Fasern leicht entkräuselbar sind. Die Verfahren in diesem Dokument sind nicht auf sich verjüngende Fasern anwendbar. Das Schwingungsverfahren ist nicht immer bei Hohlfasern und flachen (bandförmigen) Fasern anwendbar.
