Dieses Dokument enthält die grundlegenden Prinzipien und Anforderungen für die sichere Handhabung und Lagerung von Holzpellets in häuslichen und anderen kleinen Feuerstätten. Es erfasst die Lieferkette vom Beladen der Lieferfahrzeuge einschließlich der Anforderungen an Lieferfahrzeuge bis zu den Anschlüssen an die Lagerstätte der Endverbraucher sowie den Lieferprozess. Zudem erfasst es die Auslegung und Konstruk-tion von Pelletlagerungssystemen. Dieses Dokument behandelt die Gefahr durch Feuer und Staubexplosionen, das Risiko der Ausgasung, der Sauerstoffarmut, von Schäden an Anlagen und Gebäuden durch das Aufquellen von Pellets, sowie weitere Gesundheitsrisiken. Es gilt für Holzpellets nach ISO 17225-2.
