Diese Internationale Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung des Stickstoffgehaltes von Getreide, Hülsen-früchten und deren Produkten nach dem Kjeldahl-Verfahren und ein Verfahren zur Berechnung des Rohproteingehaltes fest. Das Verfahren unterscheidet nicht zwischen Proteinstickstoff und Nichtproteinstickstoff. Wenn es wichtig ist, den Gehalt an Nichtproteinstickstoff zu bestimmen, würde ein geeignetes Verfahren hierzu angewendet werden.
