Diese Internationale Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Drehungsrichtung, der Anzahl der Drehungen je Längeneinheit und der Längenänderung beim Aufdrehen von Garnen (en: yarns) und Zwirnen (en: twisted yarns) durch ein direktes Zählverfahren fest. Diese Internationale Norm ist anwendbar auf a) Einfachgarne (Spinnfasergarn und Filamentgarn), b) einstufige mehrfache Zwirne, und c) mehrstufige Zwirne. Es werden für jede der oben genannten Garn- bzw. Zwirnart getrennte Verfahren angegeben. Die Verfahren sind in erster Linie für Garne und Zwirne in Aufmachungseinheiten ausgelegt, aber mit besonderen Vor-sichtsmaßnahmen können die Verfahren auch für Garne und Zwirne verwendet werden, die aus Geweben und Maschenwaren entnommen wurden. Es ist nicht geeignet für die Bestimmung der Drehung eines Monofils.
