Diese Norm legt zwei Verfahren zur Herstellung von Probenteilen von Erdöl und verwandten Produkten, die bei mehr als 200 °C sieden, fest. Die Probenteile können dann für die Bestimmung des Gesamtwassergehaltes im Bereich von 3 mg/kg bis 1 000 mg/kg verwendet werden. Dieses Verfahren ist auf gebrauchte und ungebrauchte Schmieröle, nichtwässrige Druckflüssigkeiten und hochsiedende Lösungsmittel anwendbar. Die Probenteile, die mit diesen Verfahren erzeugt werden, sind für standardmäßige Bestimmungen des Wassergehaltes nach Karl Fischer wie z.B. für diejenigen Bestimmungen geeignet, die in ISO 6296 oder ISO 12937 beschrieben sind.
