Diese Internationale Norm legt ein zerstörungsfreies Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Dicke anodisch erzeugter Oxidschichten auf Aluminium und Aluminiumlegierungen unter Einsatz eines Lichtschnittmikroskops fest. Das Verfahren ist anwendbar für die meisten industriell anodisch erzeugten Oxidschichten über 10 Mikrometer oder bei glatten Oberflächen über 5 Mikrometer. Die Anwendung des beschriebenen Verfahrens ist nur möglich, wenn die beiden in Abschnitt 3 beschriebenen Lichtbänder gut sichtbar und eindeutig voneinander getrennt sind, d. h. nicht bei opaken oder dunkel gefärbten Schichten.
