Die Norm legt fest, wie der verzahnte Teil von Zahnrädern einschließlich Schneckenantrieb und Kettenrädern zu zeichnen ist. Die Norm gilt für Einzelteilzeichnungen (einzelne Zahnräder) und für Zusammenstellungszeichnungen (Zahnradpaare). Als Grundsatz gilt, daß ein Zahnrad (ausgenommen im Achsschnitt) als massives Teil ohne Zähne dargestellt wird, jedoch wird die Wälzfläche als schmale Strich-Punkt-Linie angegeben. Aus Gründen der Einheitlichkeit sind alle Bilder in europäischer Darstellung (Methode E) ausgeführt.
