Das Verfahren ist anwendbar auf Beschichtungsstoffe, die ausschließlich organische Lösemittel enthalten (allgemein als konventionelle Beschichtungsstoffe bezeichnet) sowie auf Bindemittellösungen und nichtwässrige Dispersionen, die ausschließlich organische Lösemittel enthalten. Das in diesem Dokument beschriebene Verfahren gilt nicht für die Bestimmung des Gehalts an flüchtigen organischen Verbindungen (VOC, en: volatile organic compounds) und schwerflüchtigen organischen Verbindungen (SVOC, en: semi-volatile organic compounds).
