Diese Internationale Norm beschreibt künstliche Bewitterungsprüfungen für die Bewertung von Kunststoffen in stark verschmutzten Umgebungsbedingungen im Freien. Die Ergebnisse dieser Internationalen Norm können nicht verwendet werden, um die Lebensdauer dieser Kunststoffe vorherzusagen. Diese Internationale Norm beschreibt zwei verschiedene Expositionsverfahren. Die Anwendung dieser Verfahren hängt von der Art des zu bewertenden Kunststoffproduktes ab. In Verfahren A, das für Produkte vorgesehen ist, bei denen eine Oberflächendegradation entscheidend ist, wird ein starkes Säurespray (pH 1,5) für einen kurzen Zeitraum verwendet. In Verfahren B wird ein schwächeres Säurespray (pH 3,5) verwendet, das über einen längeren Zeitraum hinweg aufgebracht wird, das tief in das Produkt eindringen kann. Es ist für Geotextilien und ähnliche Produkte vorgesehen. Diese Internationale Norm deckt nicht den Einfluss von Sonderchemikalien wie Agrochemikalien ab.
