Das Verfahren gilt für Metallpulver, die frei durch eine 2,5-mm-Ausflussöffnung fließen. Es kann jedoch auch bei Pulvern angewendet werden, die mühsam durch eine 2,5-mm-Ausflussöffnung, aber frei durch eine 5-mm-Ausflussöffnung fließen. Verfahren zur Ermittlung der Fülldichte von Pulvern, die nicht durch eine 5-mm-Ausflussöffnung fließen, sind in ISO 3923-2 festgelegt.
