Dieser Teil von ISO 4629 legt ein titrimetrisches Verfahren zum Bestimmen von freien Hydroxylgruppen in Bindemitteln und Bindemittellösungen für Beschichtungsstoffe fest. Die Hydroxylgruppen können als mehrwertige Alkohole, partielle Ester, endständige Polyestergruppen oder hydroxylierte Fettsäuren vorliegen. Das Verfahren ist nicht für Harze geeignet, die gleichzeitig Hydroxylgruppen und Epoxidgruppen enthalten, weil letztere in das Ergebnis eingehen. Ebenfalls nicht geeignet ist das Verfahren für Cellulosenitrat und Phenolharze.
