Dieser Teil von ISO 4629 legt ein titrimetrisches Verfahren zum Bestimmen der Hydroxylzahl von Harzen, Bindemitteln für Beschichtungsstoffe, primären Alkoholen, Glykolen und Fetten fest. Die Anwendbarkeit des Verfahrens für Hydroxysäuren, phenolische Hydroxylgruppen, einige Polyole, wie z. B. Trimethylolpropan, und für Substanzen mit aromatischen Gruppierungen, die für die Friedel-Crafts-Acylierung aktiviert sind, muss im Einzelfall geprüft werden. Bei Anpassung der Bedingungen ist das Verfahren auch zum Bestimmen der Hydroxylzahl von Rizinusöl und seiner Derivate geeignet.
