Diese Internationale Norm beschreibt ein Verfahren und eine Gerät zur Bestimmung der Position des Sitzindexpunkts (SIP) für alle Sitzarten, die für den Einsatz in Erdbaumaschinen, wie in ISO 6165 definiert, sowie Traktoren und Maschinen für Land- und Forstwirtschaft, wie in ISO 3339-0 definiert, entwickelt wurden. Damit wird ein einheitliches Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Position des SIP im Verhältnis zu einem Befestigungspunkt des Sitzes definiert. Der SIP kann am Sitz allein oder in seiner Anordnung auf der Maschine bestimmt werden. Der SIP ist ein charakteristischer Wert für den Sitz und kann deshalb direkt vom Sitzhersteller angegeben werden.
