Er gilt nicht für die Probenahme aus Ästuaren und Küstengewässern sowie die mikrobiologische Probenahme. Dieser Teil von ISO 5667 gilt weder für die Untersuchung von Sediment, suspendierten Feststoffen oder Biota noch für aufgestaute Strecken von Fließgewässern. Er gilt ebenfalls nicht für die Anwendung von Passivsammlern in Oberflächengewässern (siehe ISO 5667-23).
