Diese Internationale Norm legt Anforderungen an weich-elastische, tragende Polyurethanschaumstoffe vom Polyethertyp fest. Sie gilt für weich-elastische Polyurethanschaumstoffe, die als Schaumblock, in Platten- und Streifenform, als Formkörper und angefertigte Schaumstoffteile sowie als rekonstituiertes Material für allgemein tragende Anwendungen, mit Ausnahme von Teppichrückseiten und -unterlagen hergestellt werden. Die Norm bezieht sich folglich in erster Linie auf die Qualität von Polyurethanschaumstoffen zur Anwendung für Polsterzwecke. Der Schaumstoff wird entsprechend dem Schaumstofftyp, dem Verhalten während einer Ermüdungsprüfung und dem Eindrückhärte-Index klassifiziert, der als eine Möglichkeit zur Einstufung des Materials dient. Diese Internationale Norm gilt weder für Hinterschäumungen noch für Schaumstoffe zur Verwendung in heißgeschweißten Systemen, außer für tragende Anwendungen. Empfohlene Anwendungen für den Bereich weich-elastischer Polyurethanschaumstoffe entsprechend dieser Internationalen Norm sind in Anhang A aufgeführt.
