Diese Internationale Norm legt ein spektralphotometrisches Verfahren zum Beurteilen der Farbe von klaren Flüssigkeiten in Platin-Cobalt-Einheiten (Pt-Co-Einheiten) fest. Es ist anwendbar auf klare Flüssigkeiten, die eine ähnliche Farbcharakteristik wie die im Anhang A festgelegte Platin-Cobalt-Farbskala besitzen. Für Produkte mit einer intensiveren Farbe als die der Pt-Co-Stammlösung gilt die Methode nach ISO 4630. Das beschriebene Verfahren erlaubt es, die Pt-Co-Farbzahl genauer zu messen, als der visuelle Vergleich von Proben mit dem menschlichen Auge.
