Dieser Teil von ISO 6360 beschreibt ein Nummernsystem für rotierende Dentalinstrumente und Zubehör und gibt Hinweise für die Interpretation und Anwendung. Dieser Teil von ISO 6360 enthält Kennzahlen für die verwendeten Werkstoffe der Arbeitsteile der Instrumente, für die Beschichtung und für die Bindung der Schleifmittel der Instrumente. Diese dreistellige Nummer bildet die erste Gruppe mit drei Zahlen in der 15-stelligen Gesamtnummer. Dieser Teil von ISO 6360 enthält auch die Kennzahlen für Schäfte, für Handgriffe, oder, bei nicht fest montierten Instrumenten, die Kennzahlen für die Bohrungsdurchmesser, sowie für die Gesamtlänge der Instrumente. Diese dreistellige Nummer bildet die zweite Gruppe von drei (zwei plus einer) Zahlen in der 15- stelligen Gesamtnummer.
