Dieses Dokument legt die technischen Lieferbedingungen für Blankstahlerzeugnisse im gezogenen, geschälten oder zusätzlich geschliffenen Zustand fest. Blankstahlerzeugnisse sind vorgesehen für mechanische Anwendungen, zum Beispiel als Maschinenteile. Die Blankstähle werden unterteilt in folgende Stahlsorten: a) unlegierte Stähle für allgemeine technische Verwendung; b) unlegierte Automatenstähle; c) unlegierte und legierte Automatenstähle; d) unlegierte und legierte Stähle zum Vergüten. Blankstahlerzeugnisse aus nichtrostenden Stählen sind nicht Teil dieses Dokumentes, diese sind in ISO 16143-4 aufgeführt.
