Dieser Teil der Norm legt die titrimetrischen Verfahren zur Bestimmung von freiem Chlor und Gesamtchlor in Wasser fest. Meerwasser sowie bromid- und iodidhaltiges Wasser bilden eine Gruppe, für die besondere Verfahren erforderlich sind. Das Verfahren ist zur Bestimmung von Chlor (Cl2) in Konzentrationsbereichen von 0,0004 mmol/l bis 0,07 mmol/l (0,03 mg/l bis 5 mg/l) Gesamtchlor geeignet; bei höheren Konzentrationen müssen die Proben verdünnt werden. Bei Konzentrationen über 0,07 mmol/l kann auch ÖNORM EN ISO 7393-3 angewendet werden. In Anhang A ist ein Verfahren angegeben, mit dem sich gebundenes Chlor vom Monochloramin- sowie Dichloramin-Typ und gebundenes Chlor in Form von Stickstofftrichlorid unterscheiden lassen. Verschiedene Verbindungen stören die in diesem Teil der Norm festgelegte Bestimmung. Die Störungen werden in den Abschnitten 7 und 9 angeführt.
