Dieser Teil der ISO 7899 legt ein Verfahren zum Nachweis und zur Zählung von intestinalen Enterokokken in Wasser durch Membranfiltration fest. Dieser Teil der ISO 7899 ist besonders zur Untersuchung von Trinkwasser, Wasser aus Schwimmbädern und anderen desinfizierten oder reinen Wässern bestimmt. Trotzdem kann das Verfahren für alle Arten von Wasser angewandt werden, außer wenn große Mengen von Schwebstoffen oder viele störende Mikroorganismen vorhanden sind. Es eignet sich besonders zur Untersuchung großer Wasservolumina, die nur wenige intestinale Enterokokken enthalten.
