Diese Internationale Norm beschreibt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Stoffdichte und der Materialdichte von Schaumstoffen aus Kunststoffen und Kautschuk. Falls an dem zu prüfenden Material eine beim Formen/Extrudieren gebildete Schmelzhaut vorhanden ist, kann/können die Stoffdichte und/oder die Materialdichte bestimmt werden. Falls das Material keine Schmelz-haut aufweist, darf die Benennung żStoffdichteż nicht verwendet werden. Für umgeformte Materialien darf ein anderes Verfahren angewendet werden, z. B. das Auftriebsverfahren.
