Diese ÖNORM beschreibt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung des Permanganat-Index in Wasser. Es dient in erster Linie der Beurteilung von Wasser für den menschlichen und häuslichen Gebrauch, als Trinkwasser, natürliches Mineral- und Quellwasser sowie Badewasser. Der Parameter ist auch unter dem Namen "Oxidierbarkeit" bekannt. Das Verfahren ist anwendbar auf Wässer mit einer Chlorid-Konzentration unter 500 mg/l. Wasserproben mit einem Permanganat-Index über 10 mg/l sollten vor der Analyse verdünnt werden, die untere Anwendungsgrenze beträgt 0,5 mg/l, berechnet als Sauerstoff.
