Dieser Teil von ISO 8503 beschreibt das Tastschnittgerät und das Verfahren zur Kalibrierung von ISO-Rauheitsvergleichsmustern, welche den Anforderungen nach ISO 8503-1 entsprechen. Dieser Teil von ISO 8503 ist auch für die Bestimmung des Mittelwertes der mittleren maximalen Rautiefe (durch Tastschnitt) von im Wesentlichen ebenen gestrahlten Stahloberflächen (Bauteilen) anwendbar. Die Bestimmung kann auf einem repräsentativen Teil der gestrahlten Oberfläche oder, wenn dies nicht möglich ist, auf einem Abdruck der Oberfläche durchgeführt werden (siehe Anhang C). Ein alternatives Verfahren wird in ISO 8503-3 beschrieben.
