Dieser Teil von ISO/IEC 80079 legt die explosionsschutztechnischen Anforderungen an die Konzeption, den Bau, die Bewertung und die Benutzerinformation (Instandhaltung, Reparatur, Kennzeichnung) der Geräte fest, die entweder Einzelstücke sein können oder Baugruppen bilden. Dies schließt Geräte und Komponenten ein, die für die Verwendung in Bergwerken vorgesehen sind, die durch Grubengas und/oder brennbare Stäube gefährdet werden können. Die atmosphärischen Normbedingungen (bezogen auf die Explosionseigenschaften der Atmosphäre), unter denen angenommen werden kann, dass die Geräte betrieben werden, sind: - Temperatur -20 °C bis +60 °C, - Luftdruck 80 kPa (0,8 bar) bis 110 kPa (1,1 bar), und - Luft mit einem Sauerstoffgehalt von üblicherweise 21 % V/V. Dieser Teil von ISO/IEC 80079 gilt für Geräte und Komponenten nach EPL Mb zur Verwendung in explosionsfähigen Atmosphären, die Grubengas und/oder brennbaren Staub enthalten.
