Diese Internationale Norm legt die wesentlichen Anforderungen für ein System Snowboard-Step-in-Bindung-Schuh fest (siehe 3.1), im Folgenden Step-in-Snowboardbindungen genannt. Diese Internationale Norm gilt für Step-in-Snowboardbindungen für Erwachsene und Kinder. Diese Art des Bindungssystems benutzt einen mechanischen Verschlussmechanismus und der Verschlussmechanismus des Systems wird herstellerspezifisch sein und die Kompatibilität zwischen verschiedenen Systemen wird nicht erwartet oder vorausgesetzt. Deshalb erfordert jede mögliche Kombination von Schuh und Bindung eine Prüfung. Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren von Snowboard-Plattenbindungen ohne Auslösemechanismus werden in ISO 14790 festgelegt. Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren von Snowboard-Plattenbindungen für Softboots werden in ISO 14573 festgelegt.
