Táto európska norma platí pre prístroje chrániace pred prepätím sieťovej frekvencie (v norme sa označujú ako "POP") pre domácnosti a na podobné použitie s menovitou frekvenciou 50 Hz a menovitým striedavým napätím 230 V (medzi fázou a neutrálom), ktoré sú určené na použitie spolu s hlavným istiacim prístrojom, ktorým môže byť istič (CB) vyhovujúci EN 60898-1 alebo EN 60898-2, prúdový chránič bez vstavanej nadprúdovej ochrany (RCCB) vyhovujúci EN 61008-1 alebo prúdový chránič so vstavanou nadprúdovou ochranou (RCBO) vyhovujúci EN 61009-1.
