Táto publikácia platí pre:striedavé prenosové, distribučné a spotrebiteľské siete a v nich používané zariadenia s normalizovanou frekvenciou 50 Hz a s menovitým napätím prevyšujúcim 100 V;striedavé a jednosmerné trakčné siete;striedavé a jednosmerné zariadenia s menovitým striedavým napätím nižším ako 120 V alebo menovitým jednosmerným napätím nižším ako 750 V; striedavé napätia sú určené (nie však výlučne) na použitie v aplikáciách s frekvenciou 50 Hz; k týmto zariadeniam patria batérie (z primárnych alebo sekundárnych článkov), iné silnoprúdové napájacie zariadenia (striedavé alebo jednosmerné), elektrické zariadenia (vrátane priemyselných a komunikačných) a spotrebiče.
