Tato mezinárodní norma stanoví technické podmínky kontroly trubkových závitů válcových mezními závitovými kalibry. Rozměry a tolerance trubkových závitů válcových jsou uvedeny v normě ISO 228-1. Pro jejich průmyslové využití mohou být provedeny další nezbytné doplňujíci kontroly. Pro kontrolu se použijí dobré a zmetkové závitové kalibry: a) dobrými závitovými kalibry (podle kapitoly 6 a 7) se kontroluje, zda profil závitu součástí nepřekročil mez maxima materiálu danou předepsanými tolerancemi rozměrů profilu závitu podle ISO 228-1. b) zmetkovými závitovými kalibry (podle kapitoly 6 a 7) se kontroluje, zda nebyla překročena mez minima materiálu na bocích závitů.
