During the latest 2015 homologation processes of CBB, tests showed that there is a consistent gap between the energy input of the standard drag braking test bench simulation and the brake failure test; for this reason, the homologation of CBB with the current requirements is nearly impossible and additional requirement specifications have to be set in order to assure the quality of the homologated CBB. The goal of this report is the identification of the additional requirements for the homologation of CBB related to the brake and wheelset systems. These requirements can also be extended to the homologation process of traditional cast iron brake blocks. The report also explains, when available, the background of these requirements. Finally, by describing the life cycle of these products, the link between the requirements and operation is checked.
