Tato část evropské normy EN 1074-6 stanovuje požadavky na konstrukci, provedení a metodu posuzování shody hydrantů, bez ohledu na jejich typ, materiály a funkce. Jestliže může být hydrant použit jako protipožární vybavení, zařízení pro zavlažování nebo pro jinou funkci, mohou být v jiných normách uvedeny doplňující požadavky (např. EN 14339:2001). Tato část pojednává o požadavcích použitelných jak na podzemní tak i nadzemní hydranty o rozměrech DN 65 až DN 150 a PFA do 16 bar. Tato část EN 1074 neuvádí požadavky na výstupy nebo jejich přípojky s hydranty, neboť toto je předmětem národních norem.
