Norma definuje požadavky na kvalifikaci specifikace postupu žárového stříkání. Uvádí podmínky použití kvalifikace postupu a kvalifikace pro určitý rozsah součástí. Tyto součásti se mají zkoušené součásti podobat tvarem, fyzikálním a chemickým chováním i svými vlastnostmi. To platí zejména tehdy, jestliže kvalifikaci požaduje zákazník. Analogicky lze normu použít i v rámci vnitřních požadavků firmy na kvalitu. Normu lze použít jak na výrobu nových dílů, tak na opravu součástí zhotovených z kovových i nekovových materiálů.
