Tato norma specifikuje popisy struktur zářezů a jehel v mikrometrovém měřítku. Dále poskytuje příklady měření pro geometrii obou struktur. Norma platí pro struktury zářezů s hloubkou od 1 µm do 100 µm, stěnami a zářezy s příslušnými šířkami od 5 µm do 150 µm a poměrem (hloubky zářezu k šířce zářezu) 0,006 7 až 20 a dále pro jehlové struktury se třemi nebo čtyřmi plochami s výškou, vodorovnou a svislou šířkou 2 µm nebo větší a s rozměry, které se vejdou do krychle o straně 100 µm.
